Jeff Bedard, managing partner of Resort Energy Ventures, speaks Feb. 22 at the dedication of a new rooftop photovoltaic system at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa. The system that took three years to plan but only six months to install will supply more than 6 percent of the resort’s annual power needs, the equivalent of supplying 158 homes, resort officials said. Resort Energy Ventures was the project manager and designer of the system and HNU Energy was the contractor. The partnership also included Hyatt Hotels Corp., Host Hotels and Resorts and Maui Electric Co. Hyatt Regency Maui’s sustainability initiatives are led by Gary Bulson, senior engineer.
